To say that the Istanbul derbies between Fenerbahce and Besiktas are fiery affairs is a bit of an understatement, but Saturday’s match took it to a whole new level. Besiktas lost that game 2-1, but to add even more disappointment into the mix, they ended the game with just eight men after a total of five players were sent off in the heated match.
This has dealt them a massive blow in the Turkish Super Lig, but the Champions League isn’t effected by the suspensions and Besiktas will be hoping for another positive result to bounce back from that disappointment.
Their Champions League opener resulted in a very impressive 3-1 win away to Porto, a result which puts them top of a very difficult group and increases their previously slim chances of qualification quite a lot. However, with Monaco, RB Leipzig, and Porto in their group it’s still going to be a big ask of the Turkish side.
RB Leipzig played their first ever Champions League match at home against Ligue 1 champions Monaco, coming away with a respectable 1-1 draw. Now the rapidly rising Bundesliga side are on the hunt for their first ever win in Europe.
Overall it’s been a rather slow start to the season for them though. They beat Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend but have only won three of their seven competitive games since the Bundesliga season kicked off, losing to Augsburg and Schalke.
This is thanks to a drop off in their defensive capabilities. Leipzig have kept just one clean sheet this season, although they have scored in five of their seven matches. Besiktas, meanwhile, have scored in all of their competitive games but only kept three clean sheets in these eight outings.
Besiktas’ defensive record is no better in the Champions League either, where they have conceded in nine of their last ten home games but found the net themselves in seven of them. Given both teams defensive problems backing Both Teams to Score at 8/13 looks a great choice, and with Besiktas drawing their last four home games in the Champions League a 2-2 correct score prediction looks a good choice too.
We’re also backing former Chelsea man Ricardo Quaresma to find the net. The Portuguese winger scored three goals in six Champions League outings last season and will be keen to make amends for his sending off at the weekend, so he looks a good choice for our anytime goalscorer predictions.
